What are "Yellowbacks"?

According to Wikipedia "Yellowbacks" are cheap fiction novels which were published in Britain in the second half of the 19th century.

My question is: what's meant by cheap here, does that mean the novels were cheap in terms of price or in terms of content?

Thanks in advance :)

I'm sure there were some of them that were also poorly written, but the term just refers to how they looked. They were produced in a way that was cheaper than the expensive cloth covered books at the time because of increasing literacy -- there was more demand for cheaper books.

Many thanks :)
